Balschmiter fans 14 in Sortino's 999th career win

Massachusetts 9, Temple 0

The Massachusetts softball team earned its 14th consecutive victory behind a truly dominant Brandice Balschmiter in the circle and a five-run fourth inning. The Minutewomen won 9-0 in five innings. Game 2 will being momentarily.

Balschmiter stuck out the first 11 batters of the game for Temple, and finished with one hit, one walk and a season-high 14 strikeouts. Her career best is 16 in one game, which she accomplished last year.

Bailey Sanders will be in the circle for Game 2. She started in yesterday's 4-1 win over Saint Joseph's, but was pulled after five innings. She gave up one run on three hits and three strikeouts. Balschmiter pitched the final two innings of the game, earning the win while striking out five.
