Crusaders jump out to early lead

The Minutemen's defense isn't as sharp this afternoon as it was in yesterday's 11-7 win over Central Connecticut.

Holy Cross took advantage of a pair of UMass blunders in the field and took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Norm Roth lined a one-hopper off the Green Monster that scored Jamie Aldrich for a 1-0 Crusaders lead.

UMass shortstop Lou Proietti bobbled a groundball with two outs and runners on second and third that led to the second run of the innning. Roth crossed the plate for the third run when Minuteman starter Mike Dicato threw an errant pickoff attempt to first.

UMass was charged two errors in the inning.
